One Word Rock

My word for the one-word rock project is “better”. I chose this word because I thought about, what word represents how I want to start off the new year. I came to the conclusion that I just want to be a better version of myself this year and that is how the word “better” came to me. I want to be a better football player, person, friend, and all around just a better version of myself for 2019.

“Spongebob Squarepants” Creator Dies at 57

Stephen Hillenburg former marine biology teacher, created one of the most famous child TV show of all time in “Spongebob Squarepants”. Hillenburg announced last year that he had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Hillenburg was born on August 21, 1961, in Oklahoma and died on November 26, 2018. Spongebob is a very iconic show, with 12 seasons and the episodes lasting a brief 11 minutes. Despite the simplicity of the TV show, there have been two movies along with a Broadway show based off the cartoon. No matter how old you are, you’ve probably seen the show, and it has probably made you smile and that is all Hillenburg ever wanted in making the children’s cartoon.

Jimmy Butler Traded to 76ers

This past week 4 time all star Jimmy Butler was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Philadelphia 76ers. Jimmy Butler was drafted by the Chicago Bulls, then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves before being acquired by the 76ers. The trade included Philadelphia trading Jerryd Bayless, Robert Covington, Dario Saric and a 2022 second round pick to Minnesota for Justin Patton and Butler. Jimmy has been wanting to be traded for awhile now because he believes the Timberwolves have enough talent but they don’t have the work ethic to be a championship contender. Now Butler will go to a 76ers team who was the number three seed in the east last year and now with the acquisition of Butler are an NBA Finals contender. We’ll just have to see how the rest of the season goes for Philadelphia and how far they go in the post-season.

Derrick Rose’s Throwback to 2011

Derrick Rose, a veteran point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves had a historic night Wednesday night. Rose, who was the NBA’s 2011 MVP has had a history of injuries throughout his career and these injuries have severely affected his play since. Including injuries to his meniscus and his ACL, which for a basketball player is a very serious injury to have. Rose’s pure athleticism was one of the better talents the NBA has seen before he was injured. Rose since has not been much, he’s either been hurt or coming off the bench as a role player. Last night, however, a flashback of 2011 as Rose had 50 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Timberwolves fans hope Rose can keep that going as they play the Golden State Warriors Friday.

LeBron James’ First Game as a Laker

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past three months you’ve probably heard about LeBron James signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in July. Of course, being the best basketball player in the world, this move attracted a lot of reporters and his first game as a Laker had a lot of anticipation building up to it. LeBron played the 2017-18 season as a Cleveland Cavalier winning one championship and he also spent some time in Miami, playing for the Heat, winning two championships. So wherever LeBron goes he’s brought a championship to that city and many Lakers fans are expecting the same from him this time around. As of last night, however, the Lakers lost to the Portland Trail Blazers 128-119 with LeBron getting 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists. Although the Lakers lost their first game LeBron certainly looked like the same player he’s always been and that more than anything should give Lakers fans hope everywhere.

Lil Wayne Drops Long-Awaited Album

Lil Wayne dropped his long-awaited 12th studio album “Tha Carter 5” on September 28, 2018. This album is a huge deal because usually an artist will release an album every one or two years but Wayne hasn’t released a traditional album in 7 years. The reason for this is Wayne was suing his record company Cash Money Records and ended up winning $51 million dollars. In the end, Wayne won the battle and was able to release “Tha Carter V” and definitely one of the more anticipated albums this decade along with an Album of the Year candidate.

A.J. Green’s Monster Night Vs. Ravens

Last night the Bengals played the Ravens on Thursday Night Football to begin week 2 of the NFL season. A.J. Green scored 3 touchdowns in the FIRST half last night and was a big reason the Bengals won the game. Now if you think I’m writing this because I’m a Bengals fan you’re wrong. The reason I’m excited this happened is because A.J. Green is on my fantasy team. If you’re curious how many points he scored around 25 points in most fantasy leagues, so if you have him on your team congratulations you just got a good start to win your fantasy football game already and it’s not even Sunday yet.

Mac Miller Passed Away at 26

Mac Miller the rapper from Pittsburgh passed away due to a suspected drug overdose on  September 7, 2018. I’m writing this to try and inform people who may not know much of Miller or maybe haven’t even heard of him, because I’m really sad he passed and feel more people should know of him. Miller was a rapper, producer, and singer. Mac Miller’s music was always a diverse type of music and whether you like him or not, you had to respect the artistry that his music portrayed. Miller released 5 albums along with 12 mixtapes before he passed including his most recent album “Swimming”. Since his passing, Miller’s streams skyrocketed to 970% and “Swimming” made number one on the iTunes album charts. Mac Miller may have left at 26, but his impact on music and his music catalog will live on forever.
